More E-Voting Problems!

http://techdirt.com/articles/20080404/085851751.shtml

You know, the solution to all these electronic voting issues is simple; use Open Source software, so the code can be reviewed by anyone who wants to or understands computer languages. Personally, I will not use any encryption software that is not open source, because how do you know if the software has a “back door” if the source is closed? (You don’t, and you can’t know). The same is true with e-voting software. Unless this software is opened up for the world to review, it is worthless. It could be filled with discrepancies, either intentional or not. The only way to know what the program is actually doing, is the open it up for all to see.

Sony a hippocrite!

So, anyone who reads this knows my take on Sony; I don’t like them anymore. It started with the whole ‘rootkit’ shenanigan: http://garlockfamily.com/?p=202

Now, Sony is up to it again, this time they are at the other end of the copy protection routine; the pirates! Apparently Sony was busted for having unlicensed software on their computers, in some estimates up to 47% of their servers have pirated software! Ars has much more information on this latest “republican’esqe” move: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080331-sony-bmgs-hypocrisy-company-busted-for-using-warez.html

My take is still the same as before: BOYCOTT SONY!

Museum of Science Pictures

We took a trip to the Museum of Science two weekends ago, and I have posted all the pictures to flickr. Here is the link to flickr, to that SET of pictures:

Apple posts HowTo’s (video)

Apple does a real nice job with documentation; they always have, dating back to my Apple //e days. I always enjoyed the attention to detail they put into their manuals. While I still prefer books to electronic documentation (and always will), these video tutorials are also very nice.

Personally, I will also prefer something I can hold in my hand, and flip through, versus a PDF or other electronic documentation. Apple’s online documentation is done very well, and I highly recommend having a look at it, as an adjunct to their “analog” documentation.
